To avoid causing further distress, the Prophet vowed never to drink the honey again. Allah immediately revealed the first verse: "O Prophet! Why do you forbid [for yourself] that which Allah has allowed to you, seeking to please your wives?" .
The Prophet frequently stayed with his wife Zainab bint Jahsh to drink honey. Two other wives, Aisha and Hafsa, devised a plan to tell him they smelled Maghafir (a foul-smelling resin) on him after he drank the honey, knowing he disliked bad smells.
