"They’re inside the building!" Kael shouted. The sound of gunfire erupted through the comms. "Rya, get out of there!"
The door exploded. A towering machine, a nightmare of wires and hydraulic claws, stepped through the smoke. Its single red optic lens locked onto Rya. It raised a plasma cannon, the barrel glowing with a lethal violet light. "Transfer complete," a synthetic voice chimed.
"I just need two minutes, Kael," Rya whispered. The air around her smelled of ozone and damp concrete.
