After graduating from medical school in Lille, (Marc Zinga) declines a position as the personal physician to Congolese dictator Mobutu Sese Seko. Seeking a better life and French citizenship for his family, he accepts a post as a country doctor in Marly-Gomont—a village where no other doctor is willing to work.

Upon arrival, his wife (Aïssa Maïga) and their children are shocked to find a muddy, isolated village instead of the Paris they expected. The locals, having never seen a Black family, react with extreme fear, mistrust, and overt racism .
